Altitude Record Performance Spreadsheet
The following spreadsheet predicts the altitude, speed, and horsepower required for the CarterCopter given the design specifications and some assumptions about the efficiency and drag of various items. This configuration assumes an 90 foot wingspan, 70 foot diameter rotor, and just enough fuel to reach maximum altitude. This spreadsheet also models the performance during the last stage of the around the world flight.
Summary: Takeoff weight of 3,200 pounds, 250 pounds fuel, requires 87 HP at 70,000 feet.
