Proposed CarterCopter Record Breaker
The CarterCopter Record Breaker would have a wingspan of 90 feet, a rotor diameter of 70 feet, and be powered by a turbocharged diesel engine such as the one being developed under a NASA General Aviation Propulsion (GAP) contract by Teledyne Continental. The non-stop, non-refueled, around the world flight would more than double the existing speed record (taking approximately 4.5 to 5 days), and would be the first such flight accomplished with vertical takeoff and landing.
