CarterCopter Jet Version
Preliminary design work has been done on a jet version
of the CarterCopter, using the Williams turbofan jet engines projected
to be available on a pre-production basis in the year 2000. Because the
jet engines are mounted externally, essentially the same fuselage used
in the propeller version could carry 7 passengers, or 5 passengers with
a small restroom. The jet engines are lighter than the piston engine with
turbochargers and intercoolers, leaving increased useful load for passengers
and fuel. At high altitudes, the high efficiency of these engines suggests
that greater speed and fuel economy similar to the propeller version could
be achieved, with the advantage of increased reliability.
