Stan Clines
Stan Clines started working with composites in 1980 and has become an artist with the medium. The initial experience was building wind turbine blades for Carter Wind Systems. When the business called for training others in the manufacture of composite wind turbines, he set up the process from lining up suppliers to hiring, training and organizing manufacturing crews. At peak production he supervised the manufacture of a little over one 300kW wind turbine blade per day.
In 1994 when CarterCopter L.L.C. was formed, he was one of the first employees to join the team. The carbon fiber propellers and rotors as well as the fiber glass airframe are largely his handiwork. His craftsmanship is comparable to the best at Oshkosh. The speed and quality with which new or modified designs are turned into reality is Stan's key contribution in the success of the CarterCopter. This has called for some very long days and nights, but he thrives on doing something different at work each day.
On the personal side, Stan is devoted to family and church. He speaks fondly of the accomplishments of his wife, Vanessa, and their two high school daughters, Heather and Melissa. He has a strong competitive streak and likes to golf and water ski with friends. He admits grudgingly that Jay can still out-ski him.
Mark Robinson
Mark Robinson grew up in Tyler and Wichita Falls and graduated from trade school at the top of his class. He loved all things mechanical at a very early age and the family never had to buy a lawn mower since he always fixed up what others threw away. He started his career as a certified welder with several large construction companies.
In 1982, he started with Carter Wind Systems initially part time, then growing with the business he became the supervisor of the machine shop as well as the installation and maintenance crews. At the height of the business, they were shipping one 300kW wind turbine per day.
In 1994, he was again one of the first employees of the CarterCopter effort. Initially, the work was for sweat equity, working evenings and weekends around his paying job. Any work involving mechanical systems fall in his domain. This includes the engine, control and landing systems and test stand construction. His temperament is well suited to the ups and downs of one of a kind research work.
A long standing dream is to build a place in Wichita Falls where children can go after school for fun. Specifically, he has a complete bicycle, board and roller blade indoor and outdoor park in mind.
For fun Mark likes anything involving motor-sports - NASCAR racing, motorcycle racing, etc. His greatest joy these days however is attending the various events of the only child still at home. Blayne is a very successful three-season athlete giving Mark and his wife Patricia much to cheer about.
