SAFER by DESIGN

From its inception Carter has had two goals: 1) Develop a vertical take-off and landing aircraft with superior speed and efficiency, and 2) Design the safest aircraft possible within those parameters. Carter's Personal Air Vehicle (PAV) design is the culmination of 15 years of research and development in pursuit of those goals. The creative combination of rotor and fixed-wing aerodynamics provides a uniquely capable and efficient aircraft with exceptional safety features.

The Carter PAV overcomes the following:

  1. NO Stall, NO spin: Carter aircraft inherently CANNOT STALL, CANNOT SPIN. As the aircraft slows the rotor RPM increases automatically. As this occurs the lift automatically transfers from the wing to the rotor. In vertical descent, the wing is in deep stall but the aircraft is completely controllable with the rotor in normal autorotation. In addition, with the rotor always in autorotation it's like having your parachute constantly deployed just in case you need it.

  2. NO Cross-Wind Landings: A 25 knot crosswind is a challenging landing scenario. With a Carter PAV it is no longer a concern. On approach you determine wind direction, turn into the wind, choose your landing spot and land. Simple.
  3. NO Unforgiving Landings: Carter's landing gear WILL NOT bounce. With the Carter landing gear you'll execute near perfect landings even under imperfect conditions. The gear can smoothly absorb descents up to 1200 fpm. A 1200 fpm arrival will result in a 6G landing without any rebound or damage to aircraft or occupants.
  4. NO Bunt-Over: Bunt-overs can be lethal and centerline thrust is key. If the rotor is unloaded and power is applied, the PAV will accelerate, NOT bunt over.
  5. NO Porpoising: Controlling aircraft in turbulent air or wakes can become extremely difficult. Carter's design incorporates a large horizontal stabilizer to provide more control surface to prevent porpoising. In addition, three vertical stabilizers, with the center vertical and rudder in the propeller slipstream, give added flight control.
  6. NO Runway: The Carter PAV can land and take off from any area the size of a helipad. In case of emergency, any small, clear area will do as a landing spot.
  7. NO high landing speed: The lethality of any accident is proportional to the landing speed. The higher the landing speed, the greater the probability of injury or death. The Carter PAV lands with zero forward speed.
